“It’s time to enjoy grace anew — not the decaffeinated grace that pats us on the hand, ignores our deepest rebellions and doesn’t change us, but the high-octane grace that takes our conscience by the scruff of the neck and breathes new life into us with a pardon so scandalous that we cannot help but be changed. It’s time to blow aside the hazy cloud of condemnation that hangs over us throughout the day with the strong wind of gospel grace. You ‘are not under law but under grace’ (Rom. 6:14).”
– From Dane Ortlund’s fabulous little book Defiant Grace.
Dane will be our speaker at this year’s Summer Retreat, July 27-29, at Streator Baptist Camp in Streator, IL. Please plan to be there! More details will be coming as the time approaches, but you won’t want to miss this.
You are invited to an evening with long-time Immanuel members and missionaries in Thailand who are getting ready to return to the field. It’s April 28th at 7:30 PM. Email info for more information!
Don’t forget: this Saturday (4/14) is the first ever UIC Area Fun Run for International Missions sponsored by ImmanuelBaptistChurch.
Come to The Meeting Place at 11:00 AM. Go here to view the route.
Walkers are welcome!! So if you’re not in tip-top shape don’t let that stop you. Bring your strollers with kids too. And feel free to invite friends!
The entry fee is $20 per person. Make checks payable to Immanuel with ‘Fun Run’ in the memo. All the money collected will go directly to George & Marlys McFall – long-time Immanuel missionaries. The McFalls will be presenting on their ministry after the service this coming Sunday. Please plan to stay after if you can to hear more about their strategic work for the gospel around the world.
Before our regular 10:45 AM Service this Sunday celebrating the resurrection of our Lord, we will be having an all-church potluck breakfast at 9:45 AM! Bring something to share, or if you can’t just come and enjoy!
Sunday Evening Prayer Meeting is cancelled this week.
Another great way to spend your Saturday between Good Friday and Easter is serving our neighbors. We will be grilling out hamburgers and hotdogs behind The Meeting Place this Saturday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. We will be doing this together with the Near West Vineyard and Church of the Beloved and inviting people to our three services on Sunday (10:45 AM, 1:00 PM, and 4:30 PM).
Starting at sun-down on Friday (after the Good Friday Service) and going to sun-up on Sunday (before the Easter Breakfast) we are suggesting a church-wide fast from electronic media in order to detox a bit from the way it has a stranglehold on our lives and in order to re-focus on Christ.
If you don’t have any ideas of what to do with your time or any good books to read on Saturday, please email Pastors Mike, Nathan, Adam, or Phil. For starters, this might be a helpful article to print out ahead of time if you want to read a brief list of the facts that help prove that Jesus of Nazareth not only lived and died, but also rose again. Get together with your roommates to pray, go to a local park with a blanket and read aloud to your spouse, stage a ‘Passion Play’ with your kids, pick up that spiritual classic that’s been on your shelf for awhile but you haven’t read or finished…
Don’t forget: We will be having a contemplative service re-living the events surrounding Jesus’ crucifixion at The Meeting Place tomorrow night (4/6) from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
Childcare will not be provided.
