IBC – Let’s send some love to Lawrie while she’s away working at camp for the summer. The Avinks are going to put together a care package to send in the next few weeks. Bring items and notes to send to Lawrie this Sunday (7/5) or next (7/12) and put them in the big box marked Lawrie’s package. It will be in the back under the welcoming table. Think 16-year-old summer care package (notes, Scripture cards, candy, snacks, fun summer items, etc.).

Email Lindsey with questions.

This Wednesday is the first Wednesday of July and that means All-Church Prayer Meeting. This month we’ll be prayer-walking in North Lawndale in preparation for the new church plant the Avinks will be part of.

We’ll meet at the Avinks’ house. We’ll head out to prayerwalk at 7:00 PM. Food will be available beforehand if you want to come early and eat. Childcare will also be available back at the Avinks’ house during the prayer-walk.

Let’s make sure that this effort to start a new church is grounded in prayer, asking God to make it happen for his own glory.

The women will be having their Bible Study this Saturday at 10:00 AM at Abby’s NEW place (email her for the address). They’re studying Ephesians 3 this week.

Here’s a classic C.S. Lewis quote that I just cut from my sermon manuscript for this Sunday but it is just too good not to re-publish somewhere:

The Christian says, “Creatures are not born with desires unless satisfaction for those desires exists. A baby feels hunger: well, there is such a thing as food. A duckling wants to swim: well, there is such a thing as water. Men feel sexual desire: well, there is such a thing as sex. If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. If none of my earthly pleasures satisfy it, that does not prove that the universe is a fraud. Probably earthly pleasures were never meant to satisfy it, but only to arouse it, to suggest the real thing. If that is so, I must take care, on the one hand, never to despise, or to be unthankful for, these earthly blessings, and on the other, never to mistake them for the something else of which they are only a kind of copy, or echo, or mirage. I must keep alive in myself the desire for my true country, which I shall not find till after death; I must never let it get snowed under or turned aside; I must make it the main object of life to press on to that country and to help others to do the same.”

Sing to the LORD, praise his name;

proclaim his salvation day after day.

Declare his glory among the nations,

his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;

but the LORD made the heavens.

Splendor and majesty are before him;

strength and glory are in his sanctuary.

CONFESSION OF SIN – John 1:5b-8

God is light; in him there in no darkness at all.

If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness,

we lie and do not live by the truth.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light,

we have fellowship with one another,

and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

If we claim to be without sin,

we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

Most holy and merciful Father,

We confess to you and to one another,

that we have sinned against you by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength.

We have not fully loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We have not always had in us the mind of Christ.

You alone know how often we have grieved you by wasting your gifts,

by wandering from your ways.

Forgive us, we pray you, most merciful Father;

And free us from our sin.

Renew in us the grace and strength of your Holy Spirit,

for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son our Savior. Amen.

Not in Me” by David L. Ward and Eric Shumacher
