PRELUDE – “Break Every Chain” by Tasha Cobbs
WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 145:1-7
I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised,
and his greatness is unsearchable.
One generation shall commend your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.
On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works,
I will meditate.
They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds,
and I will declare your greatness.
They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.
Song –
“Oh For A Thousand Tongues to Sing” by Carl Gotthelf Glaser, Charles Wesley, David Crowder, Jack Parker
CONFESSION OF SIN – from The Savoy Liturgy (1661)
O most great, most just and gracious God;
you are of purer eyes than to behold iniquity;
but you have promised mercy through Jesus Christ
to all who repent and believe in him.
Therefore, we confess that we are sinful by nature
and that we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God.
We have neglected and abused your holy worship and your holy name.
We have dealt unjustly and uncharitably with our neighbors.
We have not sought first your kingdom and righteousness.
We have not been content with our daily bread.
You have revealed your wonderful love to us in Christ
and offered us pardon and salvation in him;
but we have turned away.
We have run into temptation;
and the sin that we should have hated, we have committed.
Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father!
We confess you alone are our hope.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 1 John 1:8-9
If we say we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Song –
“Your Grace Is Enough” by Matt Maher
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – The Apostles’ Creed
We believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of Heaven and Earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hell
and on the third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
Come and see the works of the LORD,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
Song –
“A Mighty Fortress” by Martin Luther
CONFESSION OF SIN –
CONGREGATION:
Lord, we confess that we do not always take refuge in you.
We have sought shelter in other places
And have tried to build our own fortresses.
We have not been still and known that you are God.
We have given in to fear and anxiety
And looked to other gods and ourselves for our salvation.
Lord, forgive us on account of Christ.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Romans 5:1-2a
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – The Nicene Creed
I believe in one God the Father Almighty;
Maker of heaven and earth,
and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only-begotten Son of God,
begotten of the Father before all worlds,
God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God,
begotten, not made,
being of one substance with the Father;
by whom all things were made;
who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven,
and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary,
and was made man;
and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried
and the third day he rose again,
according to the Scriptures;
and ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of the Father;
and he shall come again, with glory,
to judge both the living and the dead;
whose kingdom shall have no end.
And in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord and Giver of Life;
who proceeds from the Father and the Son;
who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified;
who spoke by the Prophets.
And one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.
I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins;
And I look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

PRELUDE – “Oh Love that Will Not Let Me Go” by Indelible Grace
WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 43
Vindicate me, O God,
and plead my cause against an ungodly nation;
rescue me from deceitful and wicked men.
You are God my stronghold.
Why have you rejected me?
Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?
Send forth your light and your truth,
let them guide me;
let them bring me to your holy mountain,
to the place where you dwell.
Then will I go to the altar of God,
to God, my joy and my delight.
I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God.
CONGREGATION:
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
Song –
“Come Thou Fount” by John Wyeth and Robert Robinson
CONFESSION OF SIN – Psalm 40:11-13
Do not withhold your mercy from me, O LORD;
may your love and your truth always protect me.
For troubles without number surround me;
my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see.
They are more than the hairs of my head,
and my heart fails within me.
Be pleased, O LORD, to save me;
O LORD, come quickly to help me.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 1 John 2:1-2

we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense –

We’ve updated the Joining the Mission materials!
If you’re interested in becoming a member at Immanuel, you’ll need to download this PowerPoint and go through it before the next Mission Class on 11/8.
Our next Families in the City event will be Saturday, November 7th, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. We’ll be having it at Cristo el Redentor (formerly Amistad Cristiana; 2007 S. Blue Island).
The theme will be: Parents, Kids and Money Matters®
TV, movies, websites, friends … all can affect your kids’ attitudes about life – and money.
Find out how to talk to your kids about influences, choices, and responsible money habits.
We’ll help you:
- Reflect on the values you want your kids to learn.
- Teach your kids about money.
- Learn practical tools to make it fun.
The event will be presented by Thrivent Financial Consultant Mike Curtis.
Please RSVP with how many people will be coming (bring your kids!). Brunch will be served.
This Sunday 45,000 people will be running the Chicago Marathon.
We will be gathering to fix our eyes on Jesus as we run with perseverance the race marked out for us (cf. Heb. 12:1-2).
Not only will getting there be harder (plan your route ahead of time), but this Sunday will be different in that we won’t be having our normal service at 1443 W. Roosevelt. This Lord’s Day we will be joining Greater Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church (just a few feet southeast of The Meeting Place) for their 11:00 AM service.
