PRELUDE – “Oh! Great Is Our God

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth!

Serve the LORD with gladness!

Come into his presence with singing.

Know that the LORD, he is God!

It is he who made us, and we are his;

we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,

and his courts with praise!

Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the LORD is good;

his steadfast love endures forever,

and his faithfulness to all generations.

CONFESSION OF SIN – from the Worship Sourcebook

You asked for my hands,

that you might use them for your purpose.

I gave them for a moment,

then withdrew them, for the work was hard.

You asked for my mouth

to speak out against injustice.

I gave you a whisper

that I might not be accused.

You asked for my eyes

to see the pain of poverty.

I closed them,

for I did not want to see.

You asked for my life,

that you might work through me.

I gave a small part,

that I might not get too involved.

Lord, forgive my calculated efforts to serve you –

only when it is convenient for me to do so,

only in those places where it is safe to do so.

Father, forgive me, renew me, send me out as a usable instrument,

that I might take seriously the meaning of your cross.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 1 Samuel 12:20-22 (HCSB)

Don’t be afraid.

Even though you have committed all this evil,

don’t turn away from following the LORD.

Instead, worship the LORD with all your heart.

Don’t turn away to follow worthless things

that can’t profit or deliver you;

they are worthless.

The LORD will not abandon His people,

because of His great Name

and because he has determined to make you His own people.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – The Apostles’ Creed

We believe in God the Father Almighty,

Maker of Heaven and Earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, dead, and buried.

He descended into hell

and on the third day he rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,

from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.
