PRELUDE – “Wasteland” by NEEDTOBREATHE
WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 95:1-5
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
Song –
“This is My Father’s World” by Babcock and Sheppard
CONFESSION OF SIN –
Merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength.
We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
In your mercy forgive what we have been,
help us amend what we are,
and direct what we shall be,
so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your holy name.
Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

CONFESSION OF SIN – The Book of Common Prayer
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against You
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved You with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in Your will,
and walk in Your ways,
to the glory of Your Name.
Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Romans 8:1-4
There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus.
For the law of the Spirit of life
has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do.
By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin,
he condemned sin in the flesh,
in order that the righteous requirement of the law
might be fulfilled in us,
who walk not according to the flesh
but according to the Spirit.
Songs –
“No Condemnation” by Jeff Larson
“Rejoice” by Dustin Kensrue and Stuart Townend
FURTHER ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Romans 8:31-39
What then shall we say to these things?
If God is for us, who can be against us?
He who did not spare his own Son
but gave him up for us all,
how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect?
It is God who justifies.
Who is to condemn?
Christ Jesus is the one who died –
more than that, who was raised –
who is at the right hand of God,
who indeed is interceding for us.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution,
or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors
through him who loved us.
For I am sure that neither death nor life,
nor angels nor rulers,
nor things present nor things to come,
nor powers,
nor height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God
in Christ Jesus our Lord.

POSTLUDE – “We Are United” by The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir
There are a couple events coming up that IBCers will be attending and wanted to invite the whole church along. These would be good ways to continue the conversation about race that we started at the Retreat and the last Table Talk.
THIS Thursday (10/27) some people from the West Pilsen Small Group are going to a conversation hosted by two hip hop artists – Propaganda and Sho Baraka – on compassion, unity, race, faith, and the church. Check it out here and let Jonathan know ASAP if you’re interested in going with.
Next March 16-18 there is a conference in Atlanta called Just Gospel that will explore whether the biblical gospel has anything to say about biblical justice in the face of continuing social problems. Let Randle know if you’re interested. His family is going down and would love others to join.
IBC Women,
We will be having a Women’s Retreat on November 12th in Wheeling, IL. The retreat will start at 8:30 AM with a crepe bar breakfast (!) so you don’t want to be late :). Come enjoy a day of worship, prayer, fellowship, and discussions on how to practice discipleship in our everyday lives! The suggested donation will be $10 a person but don’t let that keep you from coming! All women are welcome. RSVP to koinonia at immanuel dash baptist dot net ASAP if you have not already. Hope to see you there!

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 46
LEADER:
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
CONGREGATION:
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah
LEADER:
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
CONGREGATION:
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
LEADER
Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
CONGREGATION:
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

CONFESSION OF SIN – Daniel 9:4-11, 19
O Lord, the great and awesome God,
who keeps covenant and steadfast love
with those who love him and keep his commandments,
we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled,
turning aside from your commandments and rules.
We have not listened to your servants the prophets,
who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers,
and to all the people of the land.
To you, O Lord, belongs righteousness,
but to us open shame, as at this day,
to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel,
those who are near and those who are far away,
in all the lands to which you have driven them,
because of the treachery that they have committed against you.
To us, O Lord, belongs open shame,
to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers,
because we have sinned against you.
To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness,
for we have rebelled against him
and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God by walking in his laws,
which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
All Israel has transgressed your law and turned aside,
refusing to obey your voice.
And the curse and oath that are written
in the Law of Moses the servant of God
have been poured out upon us,
because we have sinned against him.
CONGREGATION
O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 1 John 1:10, 9
If we say we have not sinned,
we make God a liar,
and his word is not in us.
But if we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Songs –
“To The Cross I Cling” by Isaac Wimberley, Matt Boswell, Michael Bleecker
“You Alone Can Rescue” by Matt Redman
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – New Hampshire Confession of Faith, Article 1
CONGREGATION:
We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired,
and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction;
that it has God for its author,
salvation for its end,
and truth without any mixture of error for its matter;
that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us;
and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the world,
the true center of Christian union,
and the supreme standard
by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried.
PRAYER

CONFESSION OF SIN – Adapted from John Knox’s Liturgy of 1560
CONGREGATION:
Almighty God, we are unworthy to come into your presence, because of our many sins.
LEADER:
We do not deserve any grace or mercy from you, if you dealt with us as we deserve.
CONGREGATION:
We have sinned against you, O Lord, and we have offended you.
LEADER:
And yet, O Lord, as we acknowledge our sins and offenses,
so also do we acknowledge you to be a merciful God,
a loving and favorable Father,
to all who turn to you.
CONGREGATION:
And so we humbly ask you, for the sake of Christ your son,
to show mercy to us, and forgive us all our offenses.
LEADER:
Forgive the sins of our youth, and the sins of our old age.
CONGREGATION:
By your Spirit, O God, take possession of our hearts,
LEADER:
so that, not only the actions of our life,
but also the words of our mouths,
and the smallest thought of our minds,
may be guided and governed by you.
CONGREGATION:
Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be all honor and glory,
now and forever.
Amen.
