PRELUDE – “Beautiful Eulogy” by Beautiful Eulogy

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Isaiah 40:9

Go on up to a high mountain,

O Zion, herald of good news;

lift up your voice with strength,

O Jerusalem, herald of good news;

lift it up, fear not;

say to the cities of Judah,

“Behold your God!”

Song –

Behold, Our God” by Baird and Altrogge

CONFESSION OF SIN – Psalm 90:1-8

CONGREGATION:

Lord, you have been our dwelling place

in all generations.

Before the mountains were brought forth,

or ever you had formed the earth and the world,

from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

You return man to dust

and say, “Return, O children of man!”

For a thousand years in your sight

are but as yesterday when it is past,

or as a watch in the night.

You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream,

like grass that is renewed in the morning:

in the morning it flourishes and is renewed;

in the evening it fades and withers.

For we are brought to an end by your anger;

by your wrath we are dismayed.

You have set our iniquities before you,

our secret sins in the light of your presence.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 1 John 1:9,8

If we confess our sins,

he is faithful and just

to forgive us our sins

and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

through the blood of Jesus his Son.

This Is Amazing Grace” by Phil Wickham

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 68:32-35

O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God;

sing praises to the Lord,

to him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens;

behold, he sends out his voice, his mighty voice.

Ascribe power to God,

whose majesty is over Israel,

and whose power is in the skies.

Awesome is God from his sanctuary;

the God of Israel –

he is the one who gives power and strength to his people.

Blessed be God!

CONFESSION OF SIN

Almighty God,

We confess that we have doubted your goodness.

Almighty God,

We confess that we have doubted your power.

Almighty God,

We confess that we have doubted your presence with us.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Isaiah 43:1-4

But now thus says the Lord,

he who created you…

he who formed you…

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;

I have called you by name, you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;

when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,

and the flame shall not consume you.

For I am the Lord your God,

the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Matthew 28:1-9

Now after the Sabbath,

toward the dawn of the first day of the week,

Mary Magdalene and the other Mary

went to see the tomb.

And behold, there was a great earthquake,

for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven

and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.

His appearance was like lightning,

and his clothing white as snow.

And for fear of him the guards trembled

and became like dead men.

But the angel said to the women,

“Do not be afraid,

for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.

He is not here, for he has risen, as he said.

Come, see the place where he lay.

Then go quickly and tell his disciples

that he has risen from the dead,

and behold, he is going before you to Galilee;

there you will see him.

See, I have told you.”

So they departed quickly from the tomb

with fear and great joy,

and ran to tell his disciples.

And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!”

And they came up and took hold of his feet

and worshiped him.

Song –

Crown Him With Many Crowns” by Elvey, Thring, and Bridges

CONFESSION OF SIN – Acts 17:2-3

Paul went in [to a synagogue of the Jews],

as was his custom,

and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

explaining and proving that

it was necessary for the Christ to suffer.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Romans 4:24-25

Jesus our Lord…

was delivered up for our trespasses

and raised for our justification.

Song –

Forever” by Brian Johnson, Christ Black Gifford, Gabriel Wilson, Jenn Johnson, Joel Taylor, and Kari Jobe

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – The Apostle’s Creed

We believe in God the Father Almighty,

Maker of Heaven and Earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, dead, and buried.

He descended into hell

and on the third day he rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,

from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

POSTLUDE – “Because Jesus Christ Is Alive” by The Sing Team

This week we’ll be spending our lunch hours in focused prayer, asking God to work in our hearts to show us more of him, to reveal our sins to us, and for us to meditate on the goodness of God in our lives and respond. Each day we will provide some guidance to help you pray. Our hope is that these would be a spring board into prayer and that our hearts would be open to God’s leading of our time.

Monday

Let’s pray with Paul that God would open our hearts and minds to know and to experience him in greater, richer depth this week as we meditate on the work of Christ on the cross.

15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

Ephesians 1:15-21

God, by your great mercy please open up the eyes of our hearts to see you and know you more. Lord, please reveal to us how marvelous and majestic you are and prepare our hearts to grow closer to you this week as we approach the celebration of our Risen Savior Jesus Christ.

Palm Sunday – Tomorrow marks the beginning of Holy Week as we remember the entrance of Jesus to Jerusalem for the final week of his pre-resurrection life. Jonathan will be preaching to us from Psalm 27.

Liquid Lunches – Monday through Friday we are recommending that people fast from solid food and use the lunch time to pray. We will be sending out a prayer guide with Scriptures and topics to help you focus this time.

Good Friday – We will be having a service of singing and Scripture meditation with a short devotional from Theo as we reflect on the meaning of the death of Christ. 6:45 PM at The Meeting Place.

Outreach Saturday – We want EVERYONE to participate in some part of this day. It will begin with a brief prayer meeting at The Meeting Place at 10:30 AM. Then we will go out and do surveys at several foot-traffic hot spots throughout the UIC Area, asking questions about Easter that could lead to spiritual conversations. Then at 1:00 PM we will be having an Easter Egg Hunt Outreach at Arrigo Park. Please be inviting people to this! We emailed out a digital invitation this week and will have printed copies for you to take at the service tomorrow and share with friends and classmates.

Easter Sunday – In lieu of Table Talk there will be a brunch for everyone at 9:30 AM before the service.
