PRELUDE – “We Are Not Ashamed” by Andraé Crouch
WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Ephesians 1:19-21
May you know
what is the immeasurable greatness of God’s power
toward us who believe,
according to the working of his great might
that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead
and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,
far above all rule and authority and power and dominion,
and above every name that is named,
not only in this age but also in the one to come.
Song –
“Forever” by Brian Johnson, Christ Black Gifford, Gabriel Wilson, Jenn Johnson, Joel Taylor, and Kari Jobe
CONFESSION OF SIN – Mark 8:38 and Matthew 7:22-23
Whoever is ashamed of me
and of my words
in this adulterous and sinful generation,
of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed
when he comes in the glory of his Father
with the holy angels.
On that day many will say to me,
‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name,
and cast out demons in your name,
and do many mighty works in your name?’
And then will I declare to them,
‘I never knew you;
depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Romans 3:23, 21-22
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested…
the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ
for all who believe.
Song –
“Not in Me” by David L. Ward and Eric Shumacher
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – from the Heidelberg Catechism Q 60
How are you righteous before God?
Only by true faith in Jesus Christ.
Although my conscience accuses me
that I have grievously sinned
against all God’s commandments,
have never kept any of them,
and am still inclined to all evil,
yet God, without any merit of my own,
out of mere grace,
imputes to me
the perfect satisfaction,
righteousness, and holiness of Christ.
He grants these to me
as if I had never had nor committed
any sin,
and as if I myself had accomplished
all the obedience
which Christ has rendered for me,
if only I accept this gift
with a believing heart
PRAYER
CHILDREN’S BLESSING & DISMISSAL – New City Catechism Q18
Will God allow our disobedience and idolatry to go unpunished?
No, God is righteously angry with our sins,
and will punish them
both in this life, and in the life to come.
