PRELUDE – “To the One” by Harvest Bashta
WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP
To all who are weary and in need of rest;
to all who mourn and long for comfort;
to all who feel lost and worthless and wonder if God even cares;
to all who fall and desire victory;
to all who sin and need a Savior;
to all who hunger and thirst for righteousness;
And to whoever else will come,
This church opens wide her doors
and offers welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ:
the friend of sinners,
the lover of his enemies,
the defender of the weak, and
the justifier of those who have no excuses left!

LAMENTATION OVER SIN – Lamentations 3:1-20
I am the man who has seen affliction
under the rod of his wrath;
he has driven and brought me
into darkness without any light;
surely against me he turns his hand
again and again the whole day long.
He has made my flesh and my skin waste away;
he has broken my bones;
he has besieged and enveloped me
with bitterness and tribulation;
he has made me dwell in darkness
like the dead of long ago.
He has walled me about so that I cannot escape;
he has made my chains heavy;
though I call and cry for help,
he shuts out my prayer;
he has blocked my ways with blocks of stones;
he has made my paths crooked.
He is a bear lying in wait for me,
a lion in hiding;
he turned aside my steps and tore me to pieces;
he has made me desolate;
he bent his bow and set me
as a target for his arrow.
He drove into my kidneys
the arrows of his quiver;
I have become the laughingstock of all peoples,
the object of their taunts all day long.
He has filled me with bitterness;
he has sated me with wormwood.
He has made my teeth grind on gravel,
and made me cower in ashes;
my soul is bereft of peace;
I have forgotten what happiness is;
so I say, “My endurance has perished;
so has my hope from the Lord.”
Remember my affliction and my wanderings,
the wormwood and the gall!
My soul continually remembers it
and is bowed down within me.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Lamentations 3:21-24
But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”

CONFESSION OF SIN – Psalm 32:3-5
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.
I acknowledged my sin to you,
and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Psalm 31:1-2
Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

Therefore let everyone who is godly

they shall not reach him.

you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with shouts of deliverance.

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Matthew 28:1-9
Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.

CONFESSION OF SIN – 1 Corinthians 15:1-8
Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 1 Corinthians 15:12-20
Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – The Apostle’s Creed
We believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

POSTLUDE – “Jesus Is Alive (House of Tea Remix)” by Shai Linne
For this week there will be no Memory Verse.
Instead we will be focusing on the events of Holy Week.
We are suggesting everyone skip one meal a day to fast.
If you don’t really know what fasting is all about, or would like a refresher, we recommend reading the short chapter that is from a helpful book on the spiritual disciplines by David Mathis entitled, Habits of Grace. This would be a good way to start off the week.
Each day you’ll receive an email with:
· a link to a quick VIDEO explaining what was happening on that day in Jesus’ life
· a LOOK AT JESUS directing you to one of the 7 reasons for worshipping Jesus that we talked about in the Palm Sunday sermon
· and some PRAYER POINTS to talk to God about
May the Lord use this season to refresh our perspective and heighten our love for him!

Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness;

CONFESSION OF SIN – from The Savoy Liturgy (1661)
O most great, most just, and most gracious God;
you are of purer eyes than to behold iniquity;
but you have promised mercy through Jesus Christ
to all who repent and believe in him.
Therefore, we confess that we are sinful by nature
and that we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God.
We have neglected and abused your holy worship and your holy name.
We have dealt unjustly and uncharitably with our neighbors.
We have not sought first your kingdom and righteousness.
We have not been content with our daily bread.
You have revealed your wonderful love to us in Christ
and offered us pardon and salvation in him;
but we have still regularly turned away.
We have run into temptation;
and the sin that we should have hated, we have committed.
Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father!
We confess you are our only hope.

We have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,
by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain,

let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience
and our bodies washed with pure water.
