WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Hebrews 4:14-16
Hear this call to worship from Hebrews 4:14-16
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,
but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace,
that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Since our high priest has clothed us with his righteousness,
let us draw near to God to sing praise to his glorious name!

CONFESSION OF SIN – Daniel 9:4-8
Although Christ has covered our sins, we should still confess them before God.
Daniel the prophet gives us helpful words to use.
O Lord, the great and awesome God,
who keeps covenant and steadfast love
with those who love him and keep his commandments,
we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled,
turning aside from your commandments and rules.
We have not listened to your servants the prophets,
who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers,
and to all the people of the land.
To you, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us open shame
to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers,
because we have sinned against you…
For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness,
but because of your great mercy.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 1 Corinthians 6:11
We’ve just told God that we’ve been unrighteous, sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, etc… But listen to what God tells us:
And such were some of you.
But you were washed, you were sanctified,
you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ
and by the Spirit of our God.

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – (Revelation 21:3-4)
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
“Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man.
He will dwell with them, and they will be his people,
and God himself will be with them as their God.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death shall be no more,
neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore,
for the former things have passed away.”
Let’s stand and worship the God of our comfort!

CONFESSION OF SIN –
In light of our need for God, let’s take a moment to pray aloud together with this corporate confession of sin.
Lord, though you should guide us, we inform ourselves;
though you should rule us, we control ourselves;
though you should fulfill us, we console ourselves.
We think your truth too high, your will too hard,
your power too remote, your love too free. But they are not!
And without them, we are of all people most miserable.
Now heal our confused minds with your word,
heal our divided wills with your law,
heal our troubled consciences with your love,
heal our anxious hearts with your presence,
all for the sake of your Son,
who loved us and gave himself for us.
Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – (Psalm 103:8-12)
Hear this assurance of pardon from Psalm 103:8-12.
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
nor will he harbor his anger forever;
he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

CONFESSION OF SIN – (Romans 1:28-32)
In Romans 1, Paul describes what happens to those who seek to suppress their knowledge of God in order to reject his rule over their lives. Paul writes,
And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God,
God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice.
They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness.
They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
Since it is so easy for us to ignore God when he is inconvenient for us, let’s take some time to repent of our rebellion against him and acknowledge God as the true king over our lives.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – (Romans 10:9-11,13)
Hear this assurance of pardon from Rom. 10:9-11,13.
[I]f you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes and is justified,
and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH — Week 31 (From the New City Catechism Quoting the Apostles’ Creed)
Q. What do we believe by true faith?
A. We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

CONFESSION OF SIN – (From Psalm 25:6-7, 16-18)
Remember, O Lord, Your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
Remember no the sins of my youth, and my rebellious ways:
according to your love remember me, for you are good, O Lord…
For the sake of your name, O Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
Turn to me and be gracious to me, for i am lonely and afflicted.
The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish.
Look upon my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.
