WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 95:1-2

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;

let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;

let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

SONG –

CONFESSION OF SIN – from Isaiah 55:7 and Micah 7:18

Let the wicked forsake his way

and the evil man his thoughts.

Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him,

and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

Although we have all been unfaithful to him, the Lord our God is merciful. Let’s take a moment to pray silently and repent of our sins.

(Moment for Prayer)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Heidelberg Catechism Question 1

I am not my own, but belong—body and soul,

in life and in death—to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.

He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood,

and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.

He also watches over me in such a way

that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven;

in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.

Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life

and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings?”

Let’s stand and praise the Lord who reigns on high in heaven!

CONFESSION OF SIN – From Exodus 20

The Lord God gave to his people his law in the form of the ten commandments. I’m going to read each one out loud. After each one, let’s pause and reflect and repent of the ways we’ve broken God’s law throughout the week.

“You shall have no other gods before me.

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

“You shall not murder.

“You shall not commit adultery.

“You shall not steal.

“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – From Galatians 3:10,13

Since we have all broken God’s law, we all deserve God’s righteous condemnation for our sins.

“For it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”

But in Jesus, we can find forgiveness for sins and pardon for our crimes.

“[For] Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.”

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 18:2-3

In spite of the storms of life seeking to blow us off course, the Psalmist states:

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,

my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,

my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,

and I am saved from my enemies.

Let’s stand and call upon the Lord our refuge who is worthy to be praised.

CONFESSION OF SIN –

EVERYONE

God of love,

it is your will that we should love you with heart, soul, mind, strength,

 and our neighbor as ourselves,

but we are not sufficient for these things.

We confess that our affections continually turn away from you:

from purity to lust, from freedom to slavery,

from compassion to indifference, from fullness to emptiness.

Have mercy on us.

Order our lives by your holy Word,

and make your commandments the joy of our hearts.

Conform us to the image of your loving Son, Jesus,

that we may shine before the world to your glory.

Amen.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – New Hampshire Confession of Faith Article 1

EVERYONE:

We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired, and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction; that it has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us; and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried.

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Ps. 95:1-2

The Psalmist commands the people of God to worship stating:

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD

Let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before him with thanksgiving

And extol him with music and song.

Let’s stand together and sing to the LORD, the Rock of our salvation.

CONFESSION OF SIN – Isaiah 55:6-7

Seek the LORD while he may be found, call on him while he is near;

let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts.

Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him,

and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

The LORD our God sees the depths of our sin and the secrets of our hearts.

But in God’s mercy and love, he calls us to repent of our sins and return to him.

Let’s take some time to reflect and pray in silence.

Let’s repent of our sins and return to the LORD our God.

[Moment of Silence]

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Psalm 103:12-13

Now hear this assurance of pardon from Psalm 103:12-13

…as far as the east is from the west,

so far does [our God] remove our transgressions from us.

As a father shows compassion to his children,

so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Revelation 5:13-14

In his vision of the exalted Christ, the apostle John hears all creatures in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea saying,

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

Be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

Let’s join in the chorus of all creation and declare the glory of Christ

the Lamb enthroned forever.

CONFESSION OF SIN –

While all Christians openly declare God’s glory with our voice,  we must admit that so often we deny him glory in our hearts and actions. Let’s take some time to confess our sins to the Lord, and ask for his forgiveness when we fail to give him the full glory due to his name. Read with me the words of this confession:

EVERYONE:

God of love, it is your will that we should love you with heart, soul, mind, strength,

and our neighbor as ourselves, but we are not sufficient for these things.

Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Ephesians 2:4-10

But God, being rich in mercy,

because of the great love with which he loved us,

even when we were dead in our trespasses,

made us alive together with Christ

—by grace you have been saved—

and raised us up with him

and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

so that in the coming ages

he might show the immeasurable riches

of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

For by grace you have been saved through faith.

And this is not your own doing;

it is the gift of God,

not a result of works,

so that no one may boast.
