PRELUDE – “New Life” by LOVKN

LIGHTING OF FIRST ADVENT CANDLE & CALL TO WORSHIP – Isaiah 42:5-7

Thus says God, the Lord,

who created the heavens and stretched them out,

who spread out the earth and what comes from it,

who gives breath to the people on it

and spirit to those who walk in it:

“I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness;

I will take you by the hand and keep you;

I will give you as a covenant for the people,

a light for the nations,

to open the eyes that are blind,

to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,

from the prison those who sit in darkness.

SONG –

Here I Am to Worship” by Tim Hughes

CONFESSION OF SIN – from the Book of Common Prayer

EVERYONE:

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us;

that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your Name. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – from the Book of Common Prayer

Almighty God have mercy on you,

forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ,

strengthen you in all goodness,

and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life.

Amen.

[S]ince we have a great priest over the house of God,

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – APOSTLES’ CREED

We believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary:

Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell:

The third day he rose again from the dead:

He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead:

We believe in the Holy Ghost:

We believe in the holy catholic church:

The communion of saints:

The forgiveness of sins:

The resurrection of the body:

And the life everlasting.

Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING – 1 Timothy 3:8-13 Please stand for the reading. End with “This is the word of the Lord.”

8 Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. 9 They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. 11 Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. 12 Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. 13 For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

CONFESSION OF SIN – Romans 1:18-23

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven

against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,

 who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

For what can be known about God is plain to them,

because God has shown it to them.

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature,

have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,

in the things that have been made.

So they are without excuse.

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him,

but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

In light of the ways we refuse to acknowledge God and his wisdom, let’s take a few minutes to pray, humbly acknowledging our sin and our need for his guidance.

(Moment of Silence)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Romans 5:8-9

[B]ut God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

SCRIPTURE READING – 1 Timothy 2:8-15 Please stand for the reading. End with “This is the word of the Lord.”

8 Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing. 9 I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
