PRELUDE –

“The Goodness Of Jesus” by CityAlight

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP – Luke 19:37-38

As (Jesus) was drawing near

–already on the way down the Mount of Olives–

the whole multitude of his disciples

began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice

for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying

“Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!

Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

SONG –

 “Crown Him With Many Crowns” by Elvey, Thring, and Bridges

CONFESSION OF SIN – Luke 19:45-46

And (Jesus) entered the temple

and began to drive out those who sold, saying to them,

“It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of robbers.”

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – The Apostle’s Creed

We believe in God the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth;

and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, dead, and buried.

He descended into hell*

and on the third day

he rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand

of God the Father Almighty;

from thence he shall come

to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church**,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

Amen.

* ‘hell’ meaning he descended into the grave

** ‘catholic’ meaning the universal church

SCRIPTURE READING – 2 Timothy 2:8-13

(please stand for the reading of God’s Word and respond with, “Thanks be to God”)

8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 The saying is trustworthy, for:

If we have died with him, we will also live with him;

12 if we endure, we will also reign with him;

if we deny him, he also will deny us;

13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful—

for he cannot deny himself.
