CALL TO WORSHIP – Colossians 3:16-17

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly,
teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom,
singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
And whatever you do, in word or deed,
do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Let’s stand and give thanks to our God,
Encouraging one another as we sing the truths of his word!

CONFESSION OF SIN – Isaiah 66:1-2

“Thus says the Lord:
“Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest?

All these things my hand has made,
and so all these things came to be, declares the Lord.

But this is the one to whom I will look: but he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.”

In light of God’s majesty and splendor, Let’s take this moment in our service to acknowledge and confess that we too often neglect God’s word to our detriment. As I read the words of this confession of sin this morning, Please use this time to pray along silently with me in your heart.

Lord, though you should guide us, we inform ourselves;
though you should rule us, we control ourselves;
though you should fulfill us, we console ourselves.
We think your truth too high, your will too hard,
your power too remote, your love too free. But they are not!
And without them, we are of all people most miserable.
Now heal our confused minds with your word,
heal our divided wills with your law,
heal our troubled consciences with your love,
heal our anxious hearts with your presence,
all for the sake of your Son,
who loved us and gave himself for us.

(Moment of Silence)

God’s word is not only used to convict us of our sin
but also as a means to comfort us in our shame.
For to all who repent and turn to Christ for salvation,

God himself declares to us,

“Your sins are forgiven… Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
Let’s continue to celebrate the Lord who saves his people

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – IBC Statement of Faith Paragraph 1

Before we hear the Word of the Lord read aloud this morning,

Let’s affirm our common faith together by reading aloud our church’s statement of faith concerning the Holy Scriptures.

We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired,
and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction;
that it has God for its author, salvation for its end,
and truth without any mixture of error for its matter;
that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us;
and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the world,
the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard
by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried.

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
