“You Bring the Morning” by Andy Squyres

CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 148:11-14

“Kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all rulers of the earth!
Young men and maidens together,
old men and children!
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty is above earth and heaven.
He has raised up a horn for his people,
praise for all his saints, for the people of Israel who are near to him.

Praise the Lord!”

Let’s stand and sing to the Lord our king!

CONFESSION OF SIN – Romans 1:21-23

Paul states in Romans 1:21,

“For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they
became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they
became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.”

Although God is worthy of all our worship, too often our hearts are prone towards idolatry and
the things of this world. As we read this confession of sin together aloud, let’s use this time to
pray and ask God to forgive us once again for the ways that we have neglected him throughout this week.
(everyone reads aloud)

Almighty God, we acknowledge and confess that we have sinned against you in thought,
word, and deed; we have not loved you with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength; we
have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. Deepen within us our sorrow for the wrong we
have done, and the good we have left undone. Lord, you are full of compassion and
gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy; there is always forgiveness with you!
Restore to us the joy of your salvation; bind up that which is broken, give light to our minds, strength to our wills, and rest to our souls. Speak to each of us, and let your word abide with us until it has wrought in us your holy will. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon
you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

No matter where you are or what you’ve done, Jesus is calling for you to turn from your sin and find true rest in his mercy and love today.

Let’s continue to sing and celebrate his goodness this morning!

SCRIPTURE READING – Joshua 1:10-18

(congregation stands)

And Joshua commanded the officers of the people, “Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving you to possess.’”

And to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said, “Remember the word that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is providing you a place of rest and will give you this land.’ Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land that Moses gave you beyond the Jordan, but all the men of valor among you shall pass over armed before your brothers and shall help them, until the Lord gives rest to your brothers as he has to you, and they also take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession and shall possess it, the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.”

And they answered Joshua, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you, as he was with Moses! Whoever rebels against your commandment and disobeys your words, whatever you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and courageous.”

End with “This is the Word of the Lord.”
Congregation: “Thanks be to God.”
