PRELUDE –
“Rest In You” by All Sons And Daughters
CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 107:1-3:
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
whom he has redeemed from trouble
and gathered in from the lands,
from the east and from the west,
from the north and from the south.”
Let’s stand and give thanks to the Lord,
for he has gathered his people into his presence this morning!

CONFESSION OF SIN – Colossians 3:12-15
As God gathers his people out of this world and into his heavenly kingdom,
The Apostle Paul now commands all Christians in Colossians 3 to put to death what is earthly in us and instead:
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
One of the means by which Christians today put off the world and put on Christ Jesus is by regularly confessing to God the ways in which we are still worldly today. In spite of God’s mercy, none of us perfectly reflect God’s kindness, humility, and patience, and all of us still need to ask for his forgiveness for the ways we still fail to love others as Jesus himself has loved us. Let’s use this time of silence in our service to pray and confess our sins before the Lord and seek his forgiveness and mercy.
(moment of silence)
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Ephesians 2:12-15
“Remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.”
Through the blood of Christ,
we who were once far off now have peace with God and his people.
Let’s continue to give thanks to the Lord this morning!

CONFESSION OF SIN – Book of Common Prayer
In light of God’s coming justice, it is imperative that sinners like us seek refuge in the Lord’s mercy now, lest we also should be swept away by his wrath. As David says in Psalm 34:22, “The LORD redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.” Let’s use this time in our service now to confess our sins before the Lord and to seek refuge in his abundant mercy and grace. Pray with me this prayer aloud:
“Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Maker of all things, Judge of all men,
we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness,
which we from time to time most grievously have committed,
by thought, word, and deed, against your divine Majesty,
provoking most justly your wrath and indignation against us.
We earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings.
The remembrance of them is grievous to us, the burden of them is intolerable.
Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father,
for your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake.
Forgive us all that is past,
and grant that we may ever from now on serve and please you
in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.”
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Hebrews 9:27-28
In Hebrews 9:27-28 the Word of God assures
those who seek refuge in the name of Christ stating:
“And just as it is appointed for man to die once,
and after that comes judgment, so Christ,
having been offered once to bear the sins of many,
will appear a second time, not to deal with sin
but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”
Let’s continue to celebrate this great salvation hope we have received in Christ!

CONFESSION OF SIN
Almighty and most merciful Father, we are thankful that your mercy is
higher than the heavens,
wider than our wanderings,
deeper than all our sin.
Forgive our careless attitudes toward your purposes,
our refusal to relieve the suffering of others,
our envy of those who have more than we have,
our obsession with creating a life of constant pleasure,
our indifference to the treasures of heaven,
our neglect of your wise and gracious law.
Help us to change our way of life
so that we may desire what is good,
love what you love,
and do what you command,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Isaiah 53:4-6
“Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.”

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – From the Heidelberg Catechism Question 1
Q: What is your only comfort in life and death?
A: “That I am not my own, but belong body and soul,
in life and in death to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.
He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood,
and has delivered me from the tyranny of the devil.
He also watches over me in such a way
that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven;
in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.
Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, also assures me of eternal life
and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.”

“Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” by John Wyeth and Robert Robinson
CONFESSION OF SIN – Romans 1:21-25
“For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever!”
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Romans 8:32
“What then shall we say to these thing? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
