CONFESSION OF SIN – Hebrews 12:5-6

In order to encourage Christian brothers and sisters who were struggling in the faith, the author of Hebrews quotes Proverbs 3:11-12 to remind God’s people that his discipline only comes upon the ones that he loves.

“And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons?

‘My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor be weary when reproved by him.
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.’

It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?”

Since God’s discipline is not meant to destroy his children but to deliver us from the folly of sin, God’s people can know that when we repent of our sins and return to the Lord,

we will find a faithful and kind Father who is eager to receive us once again back into his loving fellowship.

Let’s take this moment of silence here in our service to pray, acknowledging our wrongs before God and asking him once again to restore us back into right fellowship with him.

(moment of silence)

“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”

Jesus Christ the Son of God came into the world to save sinners through his life, death, and resurrection. And in spite of our sins, all who by faith receive Christ can have the assurance of knowing that we too can enter into his kingdom as children of the most high God!

Let’s continue to sing and celebrate the riches of God’s mercy and grace!
