PRELUDE –
“Psalm 1” by Poor Bishop Hooper
CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 33:1-5
“Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous;
it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
Praise the Lord with the harp;
make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully, and shout for joy.
For the word of the Lord is right and true;
he is faithful in all he does.
The Lord loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of his unfailing love.”
Let’s stand and sing, for the Word of the Lord is true this morning!

CONFESSION OF SIN – Isaiah 55:6-7, Book of Common Prayer (1552)
“Seek the Lord while he may be found;
call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
No matter who you are or what you’ve done this week, the Lord is once again calling all people to turn away from our former ways and return to him, the only true and living God. Let’s pray this prayer of confession aloud together as we humbly turn again in repentance and faith to our merciful and compassionate Lord.
(everyone aloud)
“Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done, and there is no health in us. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore those who are repentant, according to your promises declared to mankind, in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of your holy name.
Amen.”
ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 1 John 2:1-2
“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”
Because Christ’s death on the cross served as the propitiation for our sins by satisfying the wrath of God on our behalf, you and I stand before the heavenly throne no longer as sinners but as children of the living God!
Let’s continue to sing to the glory of the Lord!

PRAYER
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – The Apostle’s Creed
(everyone says aloud)
We believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hell*
and on the third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic** church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.
* hell meaning “place of the dead”
** catholic meaning “universal”
