CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 103:19-22

“The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
and his kingdom rules over all.

(everyone read aloud)

Bless the Lord, O you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his word,
obeying the voice of his word!
Bless the Lord, all his hosts,
his ministers, who do his will!
Bless the Lord, all his works,
in all places of his dominion.
Bless the Lord, O my soul!

Let’s stand and bless the Lord with our praise and song this morning!

(congregation stands)

SONG –

How Great Thou Art” by Stuart K. Hine

CONFESSION OF SIN –  Book Of Common Prayer 1552

As we look upon the glory and goodness of our God this morning, each of us is reminded of our sin and our unworthiness to stand before a holy God. In light of our sin, let’s use this time in our service to pray and confess our sin before the Lord so that with hearts renewed you and I can stand in the congregation of God’s redeemed and sing boldly of his majesty and grace! Please pray this pray of confession aloud with me together.

(everyone read aloud)

Almighty God,

unto whom all hearts are open,

      all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hidden—

cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,

so that we may perfectly love you,

      and worthily magnify your holy name;

      through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Romans 5:1-2

In Romans 5:1-2, the word of God assures everyone who has turned from their sins and trusted in Christ saying:

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”

Let’s continue to rejoice,

For Jesus Christ has restored his people

and has renewed our hope of standing before the presence of the glory of God!

Week 29

Christ’s Humiliation – Although God the Son is equal with God and worthy of all the glory God receives, He chose to humble Himself by taking on human flesh. He left His glorious state and came in the likeness of sinful flesh (Rom. 8:3), and He experienced a humiliating death on a cross (Phil. 2:6-8) by becoming sin for us so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Cor. 5:21).

PRELUDE –

“You Can Save Me” by Beautiful Eulogy

CALL TO WORSHIP – Romans 11:33-36

“O, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! ‘For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?’ ‘Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?’ For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever.”

Let’s stand and sing,

And ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name!

(congregation stands)

SONG –

A Mighty Fortress” by Martin Luther

CONFESSION OF SIN – Mark 4:24-25

In Mark 4:24-25, Jesus says to his disciples,

“Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. For to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”

Let’s take a moment in our service now to silently repent of the ways we’ve refused to listen to the Lord this week, and to ask that he continues to heal our hearts and minds to humbly receive his word!

(moment of silence)

SONG –

Create in Me a Clean Heart” by Keith Green

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – John 1:12-13

In spite of our sin, God himself in John 1:12-13 assures everyone who humbly repents and receives his Son,

“[T]o all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God!”

Let’s continue to celebrate,

For through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ

God himself has redeemed his people and reconciled us back into his family!

Jesus, Thank You” by Pat Sczebel

One Pure and Holy Passion” by Mark Altrogge

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – from Immanuel Baptist Church’s Statement of Faith On The Scriptures

(everyone read aloud)

We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired, and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction; that it has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us; and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried.

CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 33:1-4

“Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
    Praise befits the upright.
Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.

For the word of the Lord is upright,
and all his work is done in faithfulness.”

Let’s stand and sing,

For the word of the Lord is upright and faithful!

(congregation stands)

SONG –

Immortal Invisible God Only Wise” by Walter Chalmers Smith

CONFESSION OF SIN

With every Sunday, God’s people need to confess and acknowledge that we are not as upright as we would like to be. Because we do not love him and acknowledge his ways as we should, God’s people regularly need to pray, and ask for his forgiveness and cleansing from sin. Let’s go to the Lord together this morning and pray aloud this corporate confession of sin.

(everyone aloud)

“Almighty and most merciful Father, we are thankful that your mercy is

higher than the heavens,

wider than our wanderings,

deeper than all our sin.

Forgive our careless attitudes toward your purposes,

our refusal to relieve the suffering of others,

our envy of those who have more than we have,

our obsession with creating a life of constant pleasure,

our indifference to the treasures of heaven,

our neglect of your wise and gracious law.

Help us to change our way of life

so that we may desire what is good,

love what you love,

and do what you command,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.”

SONG –

Give Us Clean Hands” by Charlie Hall

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Ezekiel 36:25-27

And now listen to the words of the Lord’s assurance which he promises in Ezekiel 36 to everyone who trusts in him for salvation:

“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.”

Praise God that through the substitutionary life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ which we receive by faith, God has made his people new, forgiving our former ways and cleansing us from all the stains of sin! Let’s continue to sing of the Lord’s salvation this morning!

52 Doctrines

Week 27

Virgin Birth – The Bible affirms that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin (Matt. 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38). The virgin birth affirms the historicity of the incarnation, where the eternal Son of God took on human flesh. The virgin birth is significant in that it serves as a reminder of Old Testament prophecies (Isa. 7) while also affirming both the deity and humanity of Christ.
