PRELUDE – “Revelation 2” by Streetlights Bible

CALL TO WORSHIP – 1 Chronicles 16:23-29

Sing to the Lord, all the earth!

Tell of his salvation from day to day.

Declare his glory among the nations,

his marvelous works among all the peoples!

For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,

and he is to be feared above all gods.

For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,

but the Lord made the heavens.

Splendor and majesty are before him;

strength and joy are in his place.

Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples,

ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;

bring an offering and come before him!

Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.

CONFESSION OF SIN – Malachi 3:1-2

Behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.

But who can endure the day of his coming,

and who can stand when he appears?

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – Romans 5:1-2

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,

we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Through him we have also obtained access by faith

into this grace in which we stand,

and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

governed by His laws;
and exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His word;
that its only scriptural officers are Bishops or Pastors, and Deacons,

Week 5

Adamic Covenant – The Adamic Covenant (sometimes called the Covenant of Works) laid out the terms of God’s original relationship with humanity and creation in Genesis 1:26-30 and 2:16-17. There mankind was created in God’s image to be in relationship with him and to exercise his representative dominion over the rest of creation. As they reproduced and spread out to exercise dominion, humanity would spread God’s glory over all creation. However, in Genesis 2:16-17, God also gave particular prohibitions to Adam and Eve not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Because Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s covenant stipulations, they broke the covenant and incurred God’s curse on themselves and future humanity.

CALL TO WORSHIP – Daniel 7:13-14

In Daniel 7:13-14, The Lord gives a revelation to his people of his anointed coming king who would rule the nations for all eternity. Daniel writes,

“I saw in the night visions,

and behold, with the clouds of heaven
    there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days
    and was presented before him.
And to him was given dominion
    and glory and a kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
    should serve him;
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
    which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one
    that shall not be destroyed.”

As we approach the revelation of Jesus Christ ruling in his glory,

Let’s stand together and give him the reverence due his name!

CONFESSION OF SIN – Romans 13:11-14

The apostle Paul writes in Romans 13:11-14,

“[T]he hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.”

As we reflect on the imminent return of Christ, let’s take a moment within our service today, to repent of our sins. To turn away from our former way of life and to return to Jesus Christ our coming king.

(moment of silence)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

And after returning to Jesus Christ our king, we can once again hear with renewed confidence his promise of assurance and comfort.

“For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”

Since Jesus Christ has conquered death through his resurrection,

Those of us who trust in him can now confidently know that we too will one day rise from the dead and reign together in glory with our risen Lord forever!

Let’s continue to celebrate as we eagerly wait for the coming resurrected king!

CALL TO WORSHIP – Isaiah 6:1-3

“In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up;

and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim.

Each had six wings: with two he covered his face,

and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

And one called to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”

Just as the angels called to one another in celebration of the King of kings,

So also, you and I this morning are called to join the heavenly choir,

As we sing the praises of our God.

Let’s stand together and sing!

SONG –

Unchanging” by Chris Tomlin

CONFESSION OF SIN – Isaiah 6:4-5 and confession written by John Calvin

“And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”

Although God is merciful and gracious, God’s people must never forget that when we approach his throne, we are approaching a God who dwells in immaculate holiness. He is not compromised by sin in any way, but we are a sinful people. In light of God’s glory, let’s take a moment in our service this morning to confess our sins before the Lord and pray once again for his forgiveness and cleansing. Please pray with me this corporate confession of sin aloud written by John Calvin.

(everyone read aloud)

“Lord God, eternal and Almighty Father, we confess and acknowledge without pretense before your holy Majesty, that we are poor sinners, conceived and born in iniquity and corruption; prone to do what is evil, incapable of any good; and that in our depravity, we endlessly transgress your holy commandments. And so, in your just judgment, we deserve ruin and damnation. But Lord, we are displeased with ourselves for having offended you, and we condemn ourselves and our vices with true repentance, longing for your grace to relieve our distress. May you, therefore, have mercy upon us, most gentle and merciful God and Father, in the name of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. And as you blot out our vices and blemishes, extend and increase the graces of your Holy Spirit to us day by day, so that as we acknowledge our unrighteousness with all our heart, we might feel the sorrow that gives birth to true penitence, which as we mortify our sins may produce fruits of righteousness and innocence pleasing to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

(moment of silence)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 1 Peter 1:18-21

Although Isaiah was purified with a burning coal from the altar of the temple,

today, in the New Covenant, you and I have an even greater cleansing from sin. As 1 Peter 1:18-21 states:

“[Y]ou were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.”

Let’s continue to rejoice, knowing that the blood of Christ has cleansed us from our sins!

SONG –

Blessed Assurance” by Fanny Crosby

PRAYER

(everyone read aloud)

“Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

As we forgive our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation,

But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

Amen.”

Week 2

Sabbath – God’s people were to observe the Sabbath on the seventh day of each week by resting from normal daily work. It is first explicitly introduced in Ex. 16:23–30, where God provides twice as much manna for the Israelites in the desert on the sixth day so that they might enjoy his provision for them on the seventh day without having to gather it on that day. The terms “Sabbath” or “Sabbath rest” could also be applied to special days, such as the Day of Atonement, which did not fall on the seventh day (Lev. 16:31). In an extension of the sabbatical system, the land was to enjoy a Sabbath of rest every seven years (Lev. 25:4–7). By NT times, regular gatherings were held at local synagogues on the Sabbath wherever a sufficient number of observant Jews resided. Jesus offended Pharisaic sensitivities with regard to Sabbath observance, using it to alleviate human suffering and presenting himself as the true representative of humanity, for whom the Sabbath was designed (Mt. 12:1–13; Jn. 5:9–10). The healings on the Sabbath day draw attention to the realization of God’s creative and redemptive purposes for the world. The writer to the Hebrews treats the Sabbath as a foretaste of the ultimate rest God provides for those who persevere in faith and obedience (Heb. 4:1–11).

CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 147:7-11

“Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;

    make melody to our God on the lyre!

He covers the heavens with clouds;

    he prepares rain for the earth;

    he makes grass grow on the hills.

He gives to the beasts their food,

    and to the young ravens that cry.

His delight is not in the strength of the horse,

    nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,

but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,

    in those who hope in his steadfast love.”

As we prepare our hearts to remember God’s blessings and to sing the praise of his name,

Let’s stand in response to the call of the Lord and sing, knowing that he takes pleasure in those who trust in him!

SONG –

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” by John Wyeth and Robert Robinson

CONFESSION OF SIN – Deuteronomy 8:11-17

In Deuteronomy 8:11-17, Moses warned the people of Israel on the verge of the promised land saying,

“Take care lest you forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments and his rules and his statutes, which I command you today, lest, when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and live in them, and when your herds and flocks multiply and your silver and gold is multiplied and all that you have is multiplied, then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, who led you through the great and terrifying wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water, who brought you water out of the flinty rock, who fed you in the wilderness with manna that your fathers did not know, that he might humble you and test you, to do you good in the end. Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’”

As we reflect on the immense riches and material wealth the Lord has brought to many of us this morning, let’s repent of all the ways we forget to give him the glory and thanksgiving that is rightly due his name. Please use this time of silence to pray and personally do business with the Lord in your own heart.

(moment of silence)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 2 Corinthians 8:9

In spite of our sin, God’s people can still rejoice in Jesus Christ,

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.”

Let’s continue to sing this morning, for we know that through the poverty of his humiliation, Christ has blessed his people with all the riches of his exaltation.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – IBC’s Statement of Faith Paragraph IV. Of The Way Of Salvation

(everyone read aloud)

We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace; through the mediatorial offices of the Son of God; who by the appointment of the Father, freely took upon him our nature, yet without sin; honored the divine law by his personal obedience, and by his death made a full atonement for our sins; that having risen from the dead he is now enthroned in heaven; and uniting in his wonderful person the tenderest sympathies with divine perfections, he is every way qualified to be a suitable, a compassionate, and an all-sufficient Savior.

      Extol him, all peoples!

      For great is his steadfast love toward us,

      and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.

      Praise the Lord!”

As we reflect on the Lord’s steadfast love and faithfulness towards us this week,

Let’s stand together and sing and proclaim his praises for all to hear!

SONG –

Great Are You Lord” by David Leonard, Jason Ingram, and Leslie Jordan

CONFESSION OF SIN – Mark 12:28-31

“And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, ‘Which commandment is the most important of all?’ Jesus answered, ‘The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.’”

As we reflect on the ways that we have fallen short of the summary of the law and failed to love the Lord with all our hears and our neighbors as ourselves, let’s take a moment in our service here to ask for his forgiveness for our sins and for his grace to aid us in learning to love him and his people better and better each day. Pray with me this prayer aloud.

(everyone aloud)

Almighty and most merciful Father, we are thankful that your mercy is

higher than the heavens,

wider than our wanderings,

deeper than all our sin.

Forgive our careless attitudes toward your purposes,

our refusal to relieve the suffering of others,

our envy of those who have more than we have,

our obsession with creating a life of constant pleasure,

our indifference to the treasures of heaven,

our neglect of your wise and gracious law.

Help us to change our way of life

so that we may desire what is good,

love what you love,

and do what you command,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON – 1 John 4:9-11

“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.”

Brothers and sisters let us celebrate this morning,

For our sins have been forgiven, and we have been embraced in Christ by the loving arms of our heavenly Father!
